"Life on Earth, you see, is not only brief but dismayingly tenious. It's a curious feature of our existance that we come from a planet that is very good at promoting life but even better at extinguishing it." - Bill Bryson, A short history of nearly everything

"Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so." - Douglas Adams, Last Chance to See

Statistics are like a bikini. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.

Physics is like looking for a dark cat in a dark room. Philosophy is like looking for a dark cat in a dark room where there is no cat. Psychology is like looking for a dark cat in a dark room where there is no cat but you find one anyway.

Who is Arthur?
Well.. I was born in 1979 and I live near Rotterdam, the Netherlands. I am currently finishing a master of biological and cognitive psychology (Erasmus University Rotterdam, website in Dutch) at the Department of Neuroscience (Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam, Group Frens). I am very much interested in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, usability, web/interaction design and design in general. Current research topic: Fixation durations and their distributions.

Whatever happened to your weblog?
My weblog is no longer active, but might be reborn at some point. I once had a small encounter with a MySQL command "DROP DATABASE" and deleted all my posts of 3 years of weblogging - Doh! This website is just a placeholder until I get a sudden surge of inspiration. Haven't given up on XHTML/CSS, you know!
Can we get in touch?
Sure, feel free to drop me a line on my gmail account.

You can visit my Flickr account for some pictures (I'm sorry there aren't more pictures there) and you can read an article I once wrote in Dutch for Naarvoren: "Browseroorlog?! Oh nee, niet weer..." (March, 2005 - English translation of the title: "A browser war?! Oh no, not again..."). You can even look inside my head (see mum - there really is something in there after all!) and browse through part of my family tree. For more information - Google search: Arthur Lugtigheid
